Gauss-Telegraph: Language Week

Nov. 27th to Dec. 3rd 2018

You want to refresh your language skills or meet other people who speak the same language? You want to get an insight into a completely different language and culture? Then you are exactly right at this year’s Language Week of the Gauss Friends!

From November 27th until December 3rd the Gauss Haus hosts daily events on various languages, to which everyone is welcome. It starts with the Language Center of the TU Braunschweig, which will present its program and its cooperation with the Gauss Friends. Afterwards, the Spanish Regular’s table will take place. On Wednesday, the Arabic Regular’s table will take place, where you can get to know the language and culture in different activities. The following day, French is on the program, before the Greek trial course on Friday. The Greek music ensemble of the University of Thessaly not only invites you to learn the language with its program, but also to play music in an intercultural way. You can rehearse with them on Friday and Saturday, and consequently perform in the Old City Hall on Sunday. You only have to register at info@gauss-friends.org.

Saturday will be the game-evening with S.O.S. (Studying without language barriers), in which the German language is playfully in focus. Meanwhile, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a Chinese trial course. On Sunday evening, after the musical part of the program, the Hindustani Regular’s table will be held, where Pakistani and Indian students will peacefully share their languages and cultures.

On Monday we travel imaginatively, from the Indian subcontinent, towards the north to Russia and learn Russian.

The language is all about multilingualism and the role model is the polyglot Carl-Friedrich Gauss, who was able to learn not only German but also languages such as Latin, French or even Russian, which he learned at the age of 60. This insight into different languages and cultures made possible by the Language Week is an important component of international understanding and acceptance. Come along and have fun getting to know new languages. The Gauss Friends are all happy to invite you!
