BRAUNSCHWEIG, MOVIE: ARETHA FRANKLIN – AMAZING GRACE – Dec. 12th, 7:00 pm

It´s the year 1972: Aretha Franklin is at the peak of her career. After 20 albums, the Queen of Soul wants to return to her roots. Without further ado, she gives a concert at the Missionary Baptist Church. The recording of this concert is recorded on the album “Amazing Grace”, which is the best-selling gospel album to date. The recordings of this concert were never shown publicly before this movie that is shown at Universum cinema 47 years later. More information here.

BRAUNSCHWEIG, CONCERT: ROBERT CARL BLANK – Dec 13th at 9:00 pm

Guitarist and singer Robert Carl Blank loves folk, soul and blues and has already appeared in the opening acts of Elton John, Whitney Houston and Eros Ramazotti. The sympathetic songwriter from Hamburg plays his own songs in the Riptide bar, admission is free. Further information here.

BRAUNSCHWEIG, LECTURE: GERMAN HOLY EVENING AND HIS RITUALS – Dec 16th at 7:30 pm

Typical of the German Christmas is the Holy Evening including bell ringing, “Christmas story”, presents under the Christmas tree and sausages with potato salad. The traditional German celebration takes place between 16 and 22 o’clock on 24th December, whereas in many other countries Christmas is celebrated only on the 25th. Christmas Eve is possibly imported from Germany, because it was “invented” here. Prof. Fuchs explains the story of the Holy Evening in the Augustinum. The entrance fee is 5 euros.
