The city of Nanjing

Nanjing (南京) is the capital and metropolis of today’s Jiangsu Province and is located east of China, about 300 kilometers from Shanghai. Nanjing is a city with a long history, beautiful surroundings, love and openness. Nanjing is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China with more than 2500 years of history and known as “the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties and the capital of the other Ten Dynasties”. It is precisely these replacements of political power that not only brought wealth to Nanjing, but also catastrophes and devastating blows. Perhaps due to its vicissitudes, today’s Nanjing not only has a rich historical heritage, but also the spirit and lightness that keep up with the time.

Must-see attractions

Nanjing is also a beautiful city because it is located on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. That is why there are high mountains and deep water, plains and hills. The rivers and lakes have both a mild climate, a variety of plants and a beautiful landscape. This is reflected not only in the lively tourism industry, but also in the sights and monuments that can be seen everywhere. If you walk around in Nanjing and take a look at it, you can learn many famous historical figures and stories. You can discover the traces of Confucius, Sun Yat-sen, Sun Quan, Wang Xizhi and Zheng He in the process. Also enjoy the variety of Confucius temples, Xuanwu Lake and the Presidential Palace, and at the same time the charm and style of the city. When you climb up to the Purple Mountain, you can see the city with an unobstructed view. The various delicacies on the shopping street at the Confucius Temple also tell about the customs and tastes of different places.

Best museum in the city

As an ancient historical city, Nanjing must also have different museums. The Nanjing Museum – expanded in 2013 – is the largest museum in the city. Here you can get to know the whole story of not only Nanjing but also the history of southeast China.

Nightlife in Nanjing

One place where younger people always want to go is the so-called 1912 district. If you want to have a drink and dance with friends at night, the 1912 Club-street is always the best choice within the city center. You can spend the whole night with cool music in many stylish pubs and bars, but also clubs, in newly renovated old buildings from the 20th century. Nanjing is also a large university city with several colleges and universities. Many students choose Nanjing as the destination of their exchange programs. Therefore speaking Chinese is not a must to enjoy this beautiful city. Most younger people can speak English very well. You can comfortably handle everyday life in Nanjing with English.
