  1. May you introduce yourself briefly? How old are you, where are you from and what are you currently studying?

I am from Pakistan, 27 years old and I am currently studying Masters in Internet Technologies and Information Systems.

  1. What do you think of the people in Braunschweig, or German people in general?

I have had a very pleasant experience in Germany and with Germans in general. Since I arrived, I have felt very welcomed.

  1. Do you find Braunschweig multilingual?

To some extent, yes. I spoke no German at all when I first arrived but I managed to survive. Although sometimes you will encounter some people maybe in the supermarket or stores etc. who only speak German but no other languages. I then started to learn some German phrases in order to be able to carry out some basic communication.

  1. Do you feel any change ever since you have arrived in Germany?

Yes, definitely. I have had a lot of new exposure after coming abroad to study which made me more responsible as well as gaining a lot of valuable experience to deal with everything.

  1. What are the biggest differences you see between the university experience here and in your home country?

I think mostly the pace at which you complete your studies. There is no pressure here to complete your studies in the minimum time possible and you are free to plan each semester according to your ability. Basically, it is much more relaxed here whereas in my home country there is a constant pressure to complete your studies as scheduled due to the high competition in the society which results in finishing the study as soon as possible. That can be challenging.

  1. What are your hobbies?

My main hobby would be travelling. It really helps that Germany is located in the heart of Europe. It is possible to have easier and cheaper access to other European countries from here. I try to make as much use of this opportunity by going backpacking around.

  1. What is the biggest motivation behind your devotion to Gauss-Haus?

The coming together of different nationalities and cultures is what attracts me the most which Gauss-Haus provides the platform for. I wish that more and more people can experience the same.

  1. Could you pick one, or if there is more than one, could you list down your favourite activities organised by Gauss-Haus?

I would say the theme evenings organised by Gauss-Haus every Tuesday is one of my favourites. It provides a platform for all students every week to come together, learn about different countries and cultures, meet new people, make new friends and so much more. I am thankful to the management team who volunteer to make this happen every week.

  1. Does Gauss-Haus bring any changes to you? If yes, what would it be?

I feel that I am much more extroverted now. I enjoy talking to new people and am eager to learn about their country and culture. I have made friends from all over the world at Gauss-Haus which has helped me to become more open-minded and aware of the diversity of people in the world and their traditions.

  1. What will you miss the most when you are done with your studies soon?

Most probably the semester ticket which allows me to travel around. But yeah, I mean, the student life in general. Not studying or exam part but the overall university experience. Also being part of the representative of international students in the university and getting involved in student body activities.
