Gauss-Telegraph: 17 international people in Braunschweig – Raoul

by Fabien Diffé Kamga

  1. Hello, what is your name and where are you from?

I am Raoul and I come from Cameroon.

  1. When and why did you come to Braunschweig?

I’ve lived in this little research town for four years and came here for my studies.

  1. How is life here in Braunschweig? What do you like doing here in your free time?

Here in Braunschweig and especially at the university there are many good events. When I have free time, I like to play football in a team. I also like helping people, especially friends. I also like to go for a walk, because I can breathe the fresh air and enjoy the landscape. Sometimes I also go to the cinema.

  1. You are very often at Gauss Friends events. What are you interested in? Do you have a favourite event there?

I go to the Gauss Friends about three times a month and it is always a pleasure for me to be there. I like the presentations about different countries the most, because there I can meet people from all over the world and exchange information with them. It gives me the opportunity to learn new things, such as what people with different cultural backgrounds eat and how they prepare food, what activities they do, etc. I also like to dance afterwards and play table soccer with the visitors. I think it is a great idea to give international students the opportunity to meet each other.

  1. Did you have a special experience at the Gauss Friends that you would like to share with us?

The best moment for me was when I introduced my home country Cameroon. I saw a lot of joy on the faces of the visitors. The people were curious, tasted Cameroonian food and found it delicious. It was perfect! I will never forget that!

  1. What is the special feature of Gauss Friends for you?

The different nationalities that meet there every night. It’s unique, no matter what language you speak, you always find someone to talk to.

  1. Lastly, I would like to know if you have any criticism or suggestions for improvement for the Gaus-Haus? Maybe you have an idea how to make the events even more attractive?

Unfortunately, I can’t think of anything. I think the programme already offers enough activities, such as excursions, the buddy programme and the accompaniment of new students.

Thank you very much for the interview!
