Gauss-Telegraph: Campaign against the AfD state party conference

Carl Friedrich Gauss, who is probably the most famous scientist from Braunschweig, has been very intensively involved with other languages and cultures in addition to his research.

He was chosen as the eponym of Gauss Friends because they live from the diversity of people from different countries. We stand for cosmopolitanism, acceptance and open-mindedness towards other cultures. Therefore, we would like to promote intercultural as well as scientific exchange through our events and projects. At the TU Braunschweig, currently about 3,300 of the 19,700 enrolled students are international students, and the university underlines its cosmopolitanism, among other things, with a plaque attached to the old building that reads “Anyone who is hostile to strangers is not worthy to be a member of our university”.

The AfD party, on the other hand, often questions scientifically based findings in its party program and shows its rejection of diversity in Germany with statements such as “Protect German borders”.

Therefore, on the occasion of the AfD party conference in Braunschweig on September 12 and 13, 2020, we would like to set another example against racism, anti-Semitism and homophobia and instead celebrate integration as well as diversity. For this, we will first meet on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Gauss Haus to create a banner at an art workshop. So feel free to come by and be creative! On September 12, 2020 we will use this banner to participate in the demonstration against the AfD party conference in Braunschweig.
