Gauss Tips

Here they are: The fresh weekly Gauss tips from November 11th to 25th, 2020:

Online lecture: Science Slam Talks No. 4: Bioeconomy – 12.11.2020, 6 p.m.

In the fourth Science Slam talks, two panelists will discuss social participation (in) the bio-economy: How can participation processes for such complex topics as “bio-economy” be designed so that citizens understand and accept the benefits of bio-economic technologies, for example? Carolin Bohn & Dr. Florentin Schmidt (University of Münster, Center for Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research” (ZIN)) report on this from the project “BIOCIVIS – Participation to secure the sustainability benefit and social participation (in) the bio-economy”.

The project also deals with the aquaponics technology known as “tomato fish”: Combined fish and vegetable farming saves water, energy, artificial fertilizer, space and significantly reduces emissions in food production. Dr. Hendrik Monsees from the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in the Berlin Research Association (Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V., Aquaponics and Ecophysiology Research Group) explains this.

And the fourth expert Lisa Röpke from the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) reports from the research project: A³ – Alternative Antifouling Applications. Here innovative and potentially harmless antifouling coatings for industry and nature are presented and it is explained how they have been tested and why this is necessary.
