Art Showcase: Sophia Amato: L’EMIGRANTE – L’ARRIVO until November 15th, 2021

The work “L’Emigrante – L’Arrivo” by HBK student Sophia Amato is an emotional study of the so-called guest workers in Wolfsburg. In the work, the artist addresses her perspective as the granddaughter of an Italian guest worker and her feelings of arriving and not arriving, of belonging and not belonging to two cultures. In the installation Amato shows in the art showcase, she visualizes different aspects of this theme and reflects this situation on several levels.

Art exhibition: there have to be many, and they do(n’t) need to be reconciled with one another, 2021   until November 28th, 2021

In 2007, the content-related reorientation of the annex of the Villa Salve Hospes, the Remise, was initiated with a public anonymous call for proposals and a request for exhibition ideas. The project nominated at the time, there have to be many, and they do(n’t) need to be reconciled with one another, convinced with its vision of conceiving the Remise as a permeable communicative structure that provides space for process-oriented and participatory works. A good 14 years later, this approach seems to have gained even more importance. In addition to a preoccupation with artistic practices, it also provides an occasion to address underlying institutional working methods, power structures, and the relationship between artists, curators, and audiences. By asking how the usual division between those who design the program and those who (potentially) participate in it can be rethought, this project attempts a change of perspective: instead of presenting a finished exhibition, a number of locally engaged individuals, groups, initiatives, and institutions that are connected to the Kunstverein in various ways were invited to hijack the Remise and realize their own program according to principles they set themselves. At the center is the question of how new alliances can be forged between extra-institutional practices and needs and institutional actions.

Musical: The Last Five Years by Jason Robert Brown (in English with German supertitles) – until December 12th, 2021

With “The Last Five Years,” Jason Robert Brown has created a charming and musically versatile chamber musical in which joys and sorrows are literally close together: By shifting the times told, upbeat numbers like “Moving Too Fast” alternate with ballads like “Still Hurting.” Still, the two protagonists are closely linked in score as well, often sharing musical material even as it presents itself in a very different mood. Guesting as Cathy and Jamie are Sophia Gorgi and Markus Schneider, who wowed in last season’s musical “Chicago.”

Free of charge with the TU Braunschweig/HBK Braunschweig culture ticket.
