2021 HBK graduate Isabel Nuño de Buen received the 25,000 euro Sprengel Award for Fine Arts. The award ceremony took place in December on the occasion of the opening of her solo exhibition at the Sprengel museum in Hannover, which can be seen in the Einblickshalle until February 27th, 2022.

Isabel Nuño de Buen was born in Mexico City in 1985. In 2014 she completed her studies at the HBK Braunschweig with Bogomir Ecker. Most recently, Nuño de Buen has had solo exhibitions at Kunstverein Hannover and The 500 Capp Street Foundation in San Francisco.

The jury statement for the Sprengel Prize said, “Nuño de Buen’s idiosyncratic position as a sculptor who combines different cultures, media and techniques in subtle, sign-like and sculptural interventions was just as convincing as her recent presentation in the large hall of the Kunstverein Hannover.”

On February 15th, 2022, there will be an online lecture by Dr. Mario Herger from 5:00 to 6:30 pm (CET). The author and innovation expert will share insight into technological progress and how start-ups can manage the fears associated with it.

Dr. Mario Herger, a long-time SAP development manager and innovation strategist, has lived in Silicon Valley since 2001, researching technology trends and helping companies understand how to transfer the innovative spirit of Silicon Valley to their business.

In his latest book, “Future Angst,” Dr. Mario Herger focuses on the fears of Germans in particular. In this context, he asks important questions about technology and progress: What current fears are shaping us? What fears did people face in the past when today’s technologies did not exist? Why are we not at the forefront of the competition between cultures for new technologies today? What measures do we need to take in order to view new technologies not as something frightening and hostile, but as a means of solving humanity’s major problems? In “Future Angst”, innovation expert Dr. Mario Herger poses the crucial questions regarding technology and progress and presents professional and forward-looking solutions. With his appeal “Design the Future”, Herger offers an unconventional and transformative approach for a new, human-centered mindset.

Presentation: Sustainable air transport – Has the gas turbine had its day? – February 21st, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Aviation is indispensable for society and the economy. Aviation will grow in the future, and its share of global CO2 emissions would also increase as a result. The aviation industry is working flat out to achieve climate-neutral aviation, with great success. Since the introduction of the gas turbine, CO2 emissions from aviation have already fallen by 80 percent.

The presentation will focus on the future of aviation engines. What will the gas turbine of the future look like and how much potential is there for further CO2 reduction in gas turbines? But why do we still need gas turbines when we will all be flying with batteries or fuel cells in the future?
