Workshop – Virtual dance course

The Festival contre le racisme (fclr) will take place for the 18th time this year and is a campaign against racism and xenophobia, which has been held once a year at German universities since 2003. The fclr 2020 was called by the free association of student*innenschaften (fzs) and the Federal Association of Foreign Students (BAS).

The Gauss Friends and the Gauss Haus project have been supporting the decentralised festival contre le racisme in Braunschweig for several years and will participate in the first nationwide online festival contre le racisme this year.

The focus of the dance course is Salsa. Salsa dance courses often start with the assumption: ladies on one side, men on the other or men lead, women follow. What happens then if you are a woman who wants to lead? Or a man who wants to follow? And what if you do not identify yourself as a man or a woman?

Although these gender roles can be seen in dance, dance gives people the ability to express different types of gender roles or no roles at all. We use art as a force for change and a force for reflection, sometimes simultaneously.

The presentation will be broadcast on Facebook Live.
The virtual dance course will take place via BigBlueButton right afterwards.

Dance away from gender roles and define your own meaning of gender roles with us!
