Arabic World

السلام عليكم

As-salāmu ʿalaykum

For many centuries, Arabic was the commercial language of the world. Which explains why there exist many mathematical terms of Arab origin, for example Algebra. Arabic represented the language of science and technology, therefore many discoveries and inventions took place in the Arab region. Persia and Moorish Spain were also a part of the greater Arab region and show a substantial influence of the same in the development of scientific discoveries, especially in the field of technological development.

Probably one of the most important scholars within the Arab region was the Persian mathematician, Al-Biruni, who wrote and brought many of his works to the world in Arabic. Like Gauss, he was also interested in foreign languages and engaged intensively next to mathematics on subjects such as Astronomy and Geodesy. They had a lot of similarities and would have probably made a good team together.
